More tips to keep your home secure

Nobody wants to encourage burglars, but do you actively try to avert them and protect your home?  Here at ACC Security Solutions we have some home security tips for you:

  1. Home securityAlways lock front and back doors and windows when you are out or away
  2. If you need to leave a key with a next door neighbour or friend make sure it’s someone you trust
  3. Fit one of the new restricted locking systems which means keys can’t be copied without proof of ownership
  4. Keep shrubs trimmed so that they don’t give a burglar unexpected cover
  5. Use natural defence mechanisms of plants i.e. prickly ones to make access more difficult
  6. Remember to secure gardening tools in sheds or garages and make sure they are locked
  7. In the summer when working in the garden make sure your front door and windows are locked so that no one can get in whilst you’re distracted
  8. Don’t leave notes on your front door for a delivery man to leave a parcel somewhere else as this alerts an opportunist burglar to the fact that you aren’t in
  9. Join your local Neighbourhood Watch – or start a group if it doesn’t exist in your area
  10. Get your home properly alarmed …

Security solution for another satisfied customer

How do you effectively secure a large municipal building with offices and function rooms that are accessed by visitors and staff?  Call in ACC Security Systems to discuss your needs and it’s job done!

Security solutionTake Stockport Town Hall, affectionately known as ‘The Wedding Cake’, which sees 120,000 visitors a year for events such as weddings, meetings and exhibitions and is also Stockport Council’s head office, who was looking to update their security system.

The Brief:
An effective and straightforward access control system to keep visitors within appropriate areas whilst maintaining easy access for staff.

The Solution:
To fit Net2 – a networked access control system from Paxton Access to 10 primary doors.

The Benefits:
• Staff members can gain entry by showing their key-fob tokens to door readers
• Individual access can be set for each person for access to approved areas at specific times of day
• Additional council staff members from external departments can easily be added to the system
• Software allows monitoring of who’s been where
• Security issues of staff giving out access codes to visitors can be avoided by providing a card that is read by a motorised capture reader and unlocks the door whilst retaining the card for reuse

ACC Security Solutions also used the flexibility of Net2 to tailor the system to Stockport Town Hall’s specific needs.  This included integrating a simple user-friendly control panel as an alternative to the computer for locking, unlocking and checking the status of doors; an efficient way of letting visitors in while controlling access from Reception and protection for the integrated fire alarm in case of damage to the network cabling.

“The system has been excellent and we will be expanding its use next year,” says Jason Carroll, Venues Manager Stockport Town Hall.

Securing your new home

On finding the perfect new home we often overlook potential security issues with the property.  Let’s be honest we’re more caught up in the excitement of either gaining more space, a better kitchen or the remote controlled garage door.  We may have researched the area for schools, supermarkets and a lower council tax band, but how much attention did we really pay to the crime statistics?

Home securityLuckily ACC Security Solutions is aware of this – we’re human too – and is on hand to help you secure your property swiftly.  Because let’s face it, you’re not the only one who has seen this property on the market for months.  That helpful ‘For sale’ sign has been advertising either a vacant property or the imminent arrival of new residents with potentially shiny new kit for their home.  And chances are burglars will know your new property better than you do!

It’s also a good idea to change the door locks just in case family, friends or neighbours of the previous owners still have a spare key.  There could also be a forgotten key hidden in a fake rock amongst the landscaping…even if you forget to check you can be sure a burglar won’t!

Don’t panic, ACC Security Solutions can supply and install intruder alarms, CCTV and motion detectors to make your new home safe and secure.   Just give us a call now on 0161 430 8887 to discuss your needs.

How secure is your garage?

ACC Security Solutions are all about security and protection!  What you might not realise is that we work with private home owners as well as businesses.

SecurityWhen we are talking to businesses we always consider outbuildings but do home-owners consider their outbuildings – garages and sheds?

A garage is a favourite target for burglars not least for the valuables they contain – cars, bikes, tools – which are all easy ‘to get rid of’, but also because they often make access to you home easier too.  Garages are also unlikely to be occupied at night another point in their favour from a burglar’s point of view!

So here are our tips for making sure that you are protected from unexpected burglary of your garage:

  • Change the entry code on your garage door
  • Make sure you always close and lock the door
  • The same with any windows in the garage – have you got locks on them?
  • Check that the door is solid with no loose panels
  • Or damaged corners that could make it easier to pry open
  • Do the same for windows or other doors in the garage
  • Use heat or motion sensing outdoor lights as these are a known deterrent
  • The first detect body heat whilst the second detect movement
  • Install CCTV as a real deterrent – this will capture pictures of any intruder
  • This will also make identification and capture easier
  • Contact ACC Security Solutions to discuss home CCTV installation

At ACC Security Solutions we can supply and install a simple CCTV camera not only to deter intruders but also to capture images of any attempts at entry to your garage and home.  This of course can offer vital evidence if entry is tried or even successful.  And it is proven that CCTV like lights is a deterrent to potential intruders.

ACC Security Solutions can also offer a more sophisticated system which offers video analytics; this system allows you to use your computer to check your home’s security and you can even access it from your iPhone when you aren’t at home.

Assessing your risk Part 2

How do you protect your staff?  They are an important part of your overall security but you need to be sure you have protection in place for them too; in fact it’s a legal requirement for the health & safety of your employees.

ACC Security Solutions have some tips to help:

  • Check all visitor and delivery personnel identities
  • Check the identity of people you deliver to
  • Get signatures for the receipt of goods
  • Ensure all visitors to your premises sign in and out
  • Consider fitting a protective screen if you handle a lot of cash on the premises
  • Talk to ACC Security Solutions about CCTV in specific areas to protect your staff

For employees who work alone:

  • Look at personal alarms
  • A radio link scheme
  • CCTV with audio or controlled access
  • Automatic warning devices
  • Lone-worker monitoring devices

In the unfortunate case that a violent incident happens, make sure staff know how to summon help quickly through their alarm system; write down information about the incident and secure CCTV footage and the scene of the crime until the police arrive.

ACC Security Solutions can help secure your building from CCTV to perimeter security systems and intruder alarms all of which in turn will keep your staff safe.  Our Intercom Systems can add to the security of your staff too.

Basically whatever you need, ACC Security Solutions can tailor a system to give you and your staff the greatest protection.  We will recommend the most effective services for you to your budget.

Burglars use social networks to find empty properties

A recent study has revealed that 78% of burglars use Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites to identify properties that are empty.

Social Network users are apt to post that they are leaving home, going away etc.  With Christmas coming up and homes left empty for a day or more ACC Security Solutions advise you not to mention that you’re not there!

The average value of goods stolen from homes in the UK per burglary is £500 but with all those new desirable gadgets you receive as presents, the ‘load’ could be more.  Did you know it takes a burglar about 2 minutes to break in and on average about 10 minutes to grab their stash and go?

But 78% of burglars say they are deterred from entering a home with a burglar alarm.

ACC Security Solutions suggest that:
• You ensure your privacy settings on Facebook are set to ‘friends only’
• You only add people you know as ‘friends’
• You don’t announce that you will be out of town for a period of time
• Avoid posting photos that reveal your address or show landmarks near your home
• Don’t post photos of expensive items in your home
• Make sure that you have burglar prevention devices from ACC Security Solutions such as alarms and CCTV

Don’t leave your selves at risk, follow our advice and give us a call on 0161 430 8887 to discuss systems that can deter burglars from entering your home.

Beat the Christmas losses

If you are a retailer, the recent report (7th December) from the Centre for Retail Research must have horrified you.

According to the study, retailers are set to lose £1billion worth of goods during the festive season.  This is £61 million up on last year.  The losses are due to undetected shoplifters, light-fingered staff and supply chain fraud.

The latter maybe beyond your control but the first two could be lessoned with the latest security technology.

ACC Security Solutions can supply and install the latest high-tech CCTV systems which will help both situations.

Our Video Analytics System offers many benefits:
Recording is in real time and can be sent direct to your phone so that you see what is happening as it happens.

It offers HD recording and every camera will record for 3 months or more.  If you need to add more cameras, they can be added as required without replacing the channel recorder.

It’s easy for ACC Security to install; we can even upgrade your current system to Video Analytics.

Or install an HD CCTV system which offers real clarity – the resolution is 4 times higher than Sky HD.  Recordings will always be clear so you can monitor shoppers and staff and it is easy to use.

You could take a look at the quality for yourselves by booking a no obligation consultation.  Call ACC Security Solutions on 0161 430 8887 or email us.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas…

With less than a month to go until Christmas, time is running out to make those all important Christmas present purchases…a Sat-Nav for Dad, an i-pad for Mum and the latest games console for the kids.  Money may be tighter than ever this year but Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without presents right?

You’re not the only one thinking this.  Christmas is a prime time for burglaries which is why it’s more important than ever to make sure your home is secure.  Most burglars are opportunists and can’t resist an open invitation, so make sure you don’t give them one.

Security solutions

ACC Security Solutions can provide a variety of security solutions from intruder alarms and CCTV to perimeter detection to ensure your home is fully protected.  Our intruder alarms incorporate the latest wireless fobs and internet enabled systems and our perimeter detection solutions are invisible and highly reliable.  CCTV cameras are available as single cameras or multi-camera systems which employ the latest digital technology to clearly detect faces and number plates.  They also have night vision capabilities too.

Consider this as well:
Your expensive presents may look picture-perfect under your Christmas tree, but there’s no need to advertise them to everyone walking past your window!  Consider putting them under the tree at the last minute or failing that, draw curtains or blinds at night.

Also register your expensive new gadgets at www.immobilise.com.  Having your details on this database could help the police reunite you with your goods should the unthinkable happen.

With ACC Security Solutions in place, you can get on with enjoying the festivities safe in the knowledge your family, home and possessions are secure, whether you’re at home or staying away.

Is Neighbourhood Watch enough?

The Design Council which covers all aspects of design from packaging to architecture has been looking at ways that design might be able to give more protection to homes and communities.

They have worked with Neighbourhood Watch to this end; one of their observations was that Neighbourhood Watch usually exists in low crime areas so whilst it is a useful organisation, it could be more help in different areas.

If you are in an area without Neighbourhood Watch or where you feel more assistance is needed, ACC Security Solutions have a number of solutions to help you secure your home.

We have a wide range of intruder alarms which we supply and install at your home.  Some of the most up-to-date use the latest wireless technology with fobs and Internet enabled systems.

We can also install CCTV for your home which will not only protect your home but where necessary also act as a deterrent for anti-social behaviour; if there is any activity around your property at least you will be able to identify who and when it happened!

This initiative from The Design Council follows close on the heels of news we published here last month that the Metropolitan Police advise burglar alarms for our homes as a deterrent.

Don’t leave yourself unprotected; give ACC Security Solutions a call to discuss what you need.  You can be sure we will offer good advice and follow through with the goods and great service.

Assessing your risk Part 1

Business Link offers some very good advice with which ACC Security Solutions completely concur.
Remember you have a legal obligation to keep staff safe; here are their guidelines for premises security:

Start your own checklist by evaluating your premises using the ‘onion peeling’ technique so that you look at your premises and your business as a series of layers.

You should implement security at each layer to deter crime.  ACC Security Solutions can identify three physical areas of concern:
• Buildings  i.e. your main premises and any attached premises
• Property i.e. cash, stock and equipment
• People i.e. staff, security guards and visitors

Aim to reduce crime and its rewards, reduce any possible provocation to commit crime and remove excuses for criminal behaviour at each layer.

Obviously all areas of security and potential targets for crime should be considered including the effects such as financial loss and staff morale.

Remember to also take into account
• The types of crime and the amounts of crime in your area
• Have any of your neighbours been victims of crime
• Do any business crime partnerships exist in your area i.e. a shop-watch or other scheme

Remember to use a map to ensure you have considered all entry points to your building.

Armed with this information, you are well prepared to consider how best to make your building secure.  Now’s the time to talk to our team at ACC Security Solutions to see just how we can help.

We have a number of security systems with trained installation professionals to ensure that you can secure all areas you need to.  Your business and staff’s security are important, so give us a call today on 0161 451 3047 or contact us by email.
